Why should I have a Camera System?

• Commonly utilised to provide drivers comfort knowing they are reversing safely with a clear view of what’s behind
• Provides a check on what is going on whilst driving.  Are the bike covers are still on?  Is the vehicle behind is keeping a safe distance?
• Provides a check on the caravan or boat ensure connections are still intact (and they are still following!)
• With an interior install, provides a check on the horses/ animals whilst travelling.  Are they travelling well?
• Monitor and Camera systems are compatible with most vehicle and Campers scenarios.

 What do I need to consider when choosing the type of Camera System?

• The costs and challenges of your vehicle set up with installation
• How many cameras you want and where are they to be located
• Your future plans with tow vehicle/ RV

 What is the difference between a Wireless and a Wired Camera System?

A Wired System is where Camera and Monitor connectivity is through a wiring loom (cable) that runs from the front where the monitor (screen with image from camera) is mounted through to the rear, where the camera is mounted.  On a Motorhome or Truck this will be from the point of the monitor mounting at the dash to the back of motorhome where camera is mounted.

With a towing vehicle such as a Caravan this will be from the point of the monitor mounting at the dash > to the back of the tow vehicle > then connected from the tow vehicle to the caravan draw bar > then with a separate loom running from the caravan draw bar to the rear of the caravan where the camera is mounted.

Wireless means that connectivity between the Camera and Monitor is via wireless transmission technology – no need to run wiring loom (cable) from camera to monitor.  The power source for the monitor is usually inside the vehicle and can be either plugged into a 12v cig outlet or hardwired in the dash.  The monitor can still be removable by unplugging.  The camera power supply must be wired to reliable 12volt source such as an existing power feed like the fridge wiring or house battery system.

 Benefits of Wireless System

• Monitor is easily removed to transfer to a different tow vehicle 
• Less installation time than wired camera
• Easy to change/ remove or update entire system
• 1080P High Definition Camera and monitor.  A reliable rear view
• Easy Pairing and ability to connect up to 4 cameras
• Distance Range is compatible for lengthy set ups eg, long tow vehicle + long Caravan/ Bus/ Truck/ motorhomes.

The downsides

• Unlikely, but possibility of, electrical interference
• Not compatible with cameras from other systems

Benefits of a Wired System

• No need to connect a separate power feed for the camera, the cameras power feed comes through the loom
• Less likely to experience electrical interference

The downsides

• More time involved for installation running the wiring loom - expensive
• Not as easily interchangeable for future upgrades
• Trailer wiring kit required if installed on a towable (caravan)
• Only 2 camera input
